Brazilian leather exports surpass 2012 total

Before the end of 2013, exports of Brazilian hides and skins have already surpassed the value registered in 2012. According to the numbers assessed by the Department of Intelligence of the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), with additional information from the Department of Foreign Trade – Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), the accumulated value of exports of Brazilian hides and skins from January to November 2013 have reached a total of US$2.27 billion. 

In 2012 total exports reached US$2.08 billion. With a month to go until the end of 2013, Brazilian leather exports are already 9% higher than in 2012.

When considering November 2013 alone, sales of hides and skins to the international market reached a total of US$214 million, which represents an increase of 21.7% in comparison to the same month last year. The leather industry’s share of total Brazilian exports remains at 1%.

Throughout 2013 exports of Brazilian hides and skins have played a key role in the Brazilian trade balance, which is currently running a deficit of US$89 million up to November.
