Despite being established in 1840, English traditional pit tanner Thomas Ware & Sons has been largely unknown outside the United Kingdom until recently. From 380 pits it produces beautiful, crafted heavy leathers made in a traditional way from a tannery that has changed very little in 175 years. Martin Ricker reports. Interview - Luigi Priante
In February, Conceria Priante from Arzignano, Italy announced a strategic partnership with JBS Couros, the largest tanning group in the world based in Brazil. Very few tanners located in the Gulf region process hides and skins beyond pickle or wet-blue. However, Leatherworld Middle East lead sponsors, Al Khaznah Tannery headquartered in Abu Dhabi is the largest tanner in the region making finished leather from local raw materials from a modern, international class tannery.
