Brazil has registered in November a total value of US$206 million in exports of hides and skins as wet-blue, crust and finished leather. It is the first drop in monthly figures this year compared with 2013.
The figures have been released by the Brazilian Department of Foreign Trade – Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), with further analysis from the Department of Intelligence at the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB). These numbers represent a decrease of 4.4% in comparison with November 2013.
However, the yearly accumulative figures show an increase of 18.6% in comparison to the first 11 months of 2013, reaching a total of US$2.69 billion. This value is higher than the total leather exports registered for the whole of 2013, which reached US$2.51 billion.
José Fernando Bello, Executive President of CICB, says the Brazilian leather sector has been investing heavily in quality, technology and sustainability in order to compete in the global market.comments powered by Disqus
