Brazilian tanners target China at APLF

Thirty-seven Brazilian companies will be exhibiting at the 31st edition of the APLF MM&T in Hong Kong next week hoping to increase their market share in Asia, especially China.

More than 20,000 buyers from around 90 different countries are expected to attend the show between March 30 – April 1 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. China including the region of Hong Kong is a major destination for leather produced in Brazil. China alone buys 35.9% of total Brazilian exports. According to Executive President of CICB (Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry), José Fernando Bello, the expectation is a sales volume of Brazilian hides and skins following this edition of APLF to be worth around US$400 million. “We are dealing with the most important event within the leather world at a global level”, says Bello. “The Hong Kong show is definitely the one that brings the largest number of effective clients for Brazilian tanneries. Therefore, it is crucial to be present at the event.”

CICB members will showcase leathers for the winter 2016 season through an extensive colour palette and diverse mix of textures that recall handicrafts made from Brazilian leather.

During APLF 2015, CICB will also represent the Brazilian tanning industry during meetings of the International Council of Tanners (ICT) and the Global Leather Coordinating Committee (GLCC). These international leather entities evaluate and design the course of the sector at a global level through the national and regional associations such as CICB.
