New challenge for Volkan Candar

Dr Volkan Candar formally retired from leather chemical makers, Pulcra in February 2013. He first started working for the same company, then known as Henkel Leather Chemicals, which became Cognis Leather in 2000 and a separated again in 2009 to become Pulcra. 

He worked for 27 years with the company starting as a leather-marketing technician, followed by leather research and application manager in Turkey. He was promoted to global R&D and Technical Manager and relocated to Italy. Up to his retirement he was Leather Department Manager for Pulcra Turkey and a member of the Executive Committee working as the worldwide R&D coordinator. He continues to represent Pulcra in worldwide leather organizations since retiring as a consultant.

Since February Dr Candar has been working for the USAK Organized Leather Industrial (mixed) Zone, a tanning cluster located in South Eastern Turkey, as consultant coordinator. USAK is one of most important leather clusters in Turkey mainly concentrated on ovine leather production.

The USAK Organized Zone is looking to expand and is looking for foreign investors and companies to set-up or relocate to the area. Dr Candar is assisting the owners of the zone to create the correct infrastructure for attracting industry, especially from the leather sector. 

Dr Candar is also the current President of IULTCS and Patricia Casey of Argentine tanners Fonseca, will succeed him on January 1, 2014 after completing his full term as President. He will remain on the IULTCS Executive Committee for a further two years as past president supporting the new President.
