Assomac, the Italian Machinery Manufacturers Association for the Footwear, Leather Goods and Tanning sectors, held its annual general meeting on June 26 and reflected on the overall good state of the industry.

Assomac hosted the AGM at its Vigevano’s headquarters to review the sectors 2014 performance. “2014 has been a year full of changes and successful results”, said Giovanni Bagini, outgoing President of the Association, “The key to the future is to focus on young people and on corporate growth within the sector”, he said.

Production output grew by 9.56% overall sustained by the exports that increased 11.4%, repeating a trend seen over the past few years. President Bagini said that Italy is the leading export country in the world in this segment.

The number of companies and workers increased, and the association’s first goal now is to keep the numbers growing.

A special attention has been given to training, which is considered of fundamental importance to bring in a younger generation in the industry. “We need to interact with the academic system to build-up numbers that would have a guaranteed job if adequately trained”, commented Bagini.
