The scientific commission of the XXXIII IULTCS Congress (International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies) has approved 94% of the abstracts submitted to the event, scheduled to take place on November 24 – 27, 2015 in Novo Hamburgo – RS, Brazil.

Out of the 196 research papers submitted by professionals from 24 different countries to the commission, 183 have been approved in the form of abstracts.

According Dr Luis Zugno, President of IULTCS Scientific Commission, a significant part of the submissions suggest industry development from chemical solutions (focused on nanotechnology) and production alternatives with less environmental impact. Apart from improvement of quality control, the number of papers related to environmental concerns was equally significant. "There are several papers from Brazil and other nations in the environmental area, many of them about carbon footprint and evaluation tanning production systems", he says.

On a more practical note, special lectures are being organised to cover themes from the industry’s daily routine. The intention is to discuss practical subjects relating to daily leather production operations, lean production (efficiency and sustainability), design and marketing.
