The French luxury holding has appointed former Apple executive to expand the group’s online business.
Ian Rogers has been appointed as Chief Digital Officer of LVMH and will join the group in October 2015. He succeeds Thomas Romieu, who is said to take up a new role within the group.
Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of LVMH said this change will strengthen the group’s digital sphere. “Rogers will bring his extensive experience in high-end digital ventures and his innovation-driven spirit to develop LVMH leadership in the digital luxury field”, he added.
To some, this announcement signals a deeper shift by LVMH into digital sales at a time when the industry has to deal with an economy slowdown in China and other key growth markets.
Rogers is a computer science graduate from Indiana University and started his career in 1993 as a webmaster. He later founded Mediacode which was taken over by Yahoo, where he became VP and General Manager, Music. He became CEO of Topspin Media in 2008 and Beats Music in 2013. Rogers was working with the iTunes team at Apple as Senior Director pursuant to their acquisition of Beats Music and had recently contributed to the launch of Apple Music including Beats1, the digital streaming channel.
