Energy from tannery waste discussed at London conference

The “Leather and Sustainability in Retail” conference, jointly organised by ILM and BLC-Leather Technology Centre will take place on December 9, 2015 in central London. Among the speakers will be Dr Warren Bowden from the Scottish Leather Group who will outline the Group's generation of energy from tannery waste.

Dr Warren Bowden will give an overview of the Scottish Leather Group's innovative pyrolysis plant that is able to create energy from waste sludge, trimmings and others wastes generated during leather production.

Other topics discused during the conference will include:

  • Animal welfare 
  • Reducing cutting waste from product manufacture
  • Sustainable chemical management
  • Using bio based chemicals to make leather at the whole leather industry, with a focus on brands and retailers that are seeking information on sustainability in the leather supply chain.
