Smit & zoon, the Dutch chemical manufacturer, has achieved silver-level recognition for its corporate social responsibility programs, following an independent assessment by EcoVadis.

The assessment ranks Smit & zoon among the top 30% of companies monitored by EcoVadis for its sustainability performance, whose analysis system relies upon international CSR standards and covers 21 criteria across four themes: environment, fair labor practices, ethics and fair business practices, and supply chain.

“Smit & zoon highly values sustainability and wants to play a leading role in making the leather value chain more sustainable. We are very pleased with this positive EcoVadis rating as it proves that we are on the right track, and clearly demonstrates our commitment to sustainability”, said Egbert Dikkers, Leather Innovation & Sustainability, Smit & zoon.

EcoVadis is a sustainability rating platform based in Paris and used by global brands such as BASF, Nestlé, Air France-KLM and Coca-Cola to monitor a company’s sustainability performance. It conducts an extensive and tough evaluation of the CSR management system, policies, actions, and results, as well as an evaluation of the whole supply chain, bringing buyers and suppliers together to accelerate transparency and foster more sustainable business.

Founded in 1821, Smit & zoon develops and produces chemicals used in the manufacturing and finishing of leather for well-known brands of shoes, cars, furniture, clothes and bags. Headquartered in The Netherlands, the family-owned company also has branches in Germany, Italy and China, employing 200 people.
