As a project focused on promoting professional careers in the EU leather industry, COTANCE and industriAll have announced that ‘Leather is my Job!’ will now be continued throughout 2016 and half 2017.
Building on the encouraging feedback received from both workers and employers in the EU leather industry after the first phase of the project, the objectives of this second initiative will mainly focus on enlarging and deepening the results achieved.
Several European countries will take part in the second phase of Leather is my Job!, which will bring together trade associations and/or trade unions from countries such as France, Germany, Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal, the UK, Romania, Sweden, Italy, Austria, and Hungary.
Among the activities developed at national levels, the project will focus on open-days in tanneries, visits to schools, contacts with employment agencies and participation in job fairs. The definitive list of activities to be undertaken will be decided during a meeting to be held with all project partners in March 2016.
COTANCE and industriAll-ETU also plan to reach out further to leather professionals in Central and Eastern Europe aiming at joining forces for the promotion of the leather industry as a quality career option, most particularly for young entrants into the labour market.
Speaking about the positive reactions from extra-EU sources and from leather value chain partners, both Luc Triangle, Deputy General Secretary of industriAll-European Trade Union, and Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano, COTANCE’s Secretary General, have expressed their satisfaction and highlighted the importance of pursuing the project. “I am very pleased that through this initiative, we are bringing Europe closer to leather businesses and workers, who may not always see all that is done at EU level to support the industry”, said Gonzalez-Quijano.comments powered by Disqus
