A talented University of Northampton fashion student was chosen to participate at the Craft the Leather project, at the heart of Tuscany’s leather district on on May 2-8.

Aleksandra (Ola) Kukula was one of nine selected international students to take part in an immersive week-long training workshop, Craft the Leather. Currently in the second year of a BA (Hons) Fashion for Textiles course at Northampton, Kulula was selected thanks to the work she has been doing with UK based leather manufacturer, Pittards.

Accompanied by Senior Lecturer, Jane Schaffer, they both attended workshops led by a variety of highly specialised leather professionals and tannery visits.

The main aim of the Craft the Leather is to enhance the students’ knowledge of vegetable-tanned leather. After spending the week learning the intricacies of leather craft, the students selected materials from the tanneries to be used to produce their own mini-collection of leather accessories, to be showcased and judged at the upcoming edition of Lineapelle.

Craft the Leather is organised by the Genuine Italian Vegetable Leather Consortium (Consorzio Vera Pelle Italia Conciata al Vegetale). Read more here.
