A select group of leather manufacturers exhibited their collection launches for the Autumn/Winter 2017-18 in London on July 12 under the trends theme ‘New Sensorium Mood’.
41 leather producers showcased their new collections at the Ham Yard Hotel, London, to designers, stylists and other large buying groups. According to the organisers, the avant-garde spirit of the city makes Lineapelle London the ideal event to discuss matters of style in an active, constructive and participatory way.
Apart from gaining a better understanding of the UK market, this edition should have brought further insight into the possible impacts of the Brexit vote to the leather businesses. “In light of the evolution of UK politics in the last few weeks, the event presents itself as an opportunity to gain a greater insight into the situation and the prospects of the UK market after Brexit”, the organisers said in a statement.
Two fashion seminars were scheduled as well as a workshop on sustainability. Organised by ICEC, the Italian Institute of Quality Certification, the workshop aimed to provide professionals with a better understanding of the ethical and social aspects of sustainability in the tanning business, the manufacturing and marketing of the finished leather product. A particular focus was given to voluntary certification, the value of labelling, and the misleading use of the definition ‘ecoleather’.
Lineapelle London followed Anteprima by Lineapelle, the pre-collection event held in Milan on July 6-7, which recorded a 14.6% increase in exhibitor participation compared with the same edition in 2015. According to the organisers, the general feeling during Anteprima was that footwear clients showed greater dynamism than those from the leather goods industry. Some exhibitors also outlined the importance of increasingly broadening product destination horizons, and exploring new niche product categories; high-tech and digital sectors in particular.
After London, Lineapelle takes the exhibitors to New York on July 19-20, 2016, and back to Milan for the main trade event on September 20-22, which is set to be a record edition with over 1,200 exhibitors (+4%).comments powered by Disqus
