The international trade show for the footwear sector registered a 5.2% increase in visitors for its 82nd edition held on September 3-5, 2016, in Milan.

According to the organisers a total of 44,668 visitors attended the three-day event; the figures have been certified as requested by MISE, Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development. “The event showed important signs of growth despite a complex economic situation in the footwear sector”, the organisers said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, the market continues to suffer and domestic demand continues to shrink, but the increase in attendance of Italian buyers gives hope for a turnaround”, said Annarita Pilotti, President, Assocalzaturifici (the Italian Footwear Manufacturers Association), adding that the fair had a “good response from European countries”, with Germany as the top visiting country (+27 %). Asian visitors were also on the rise, with South Korea up 37 % and China +30%.
