U.S. based footwear and apparel manufacturer, Rocky Brands, has announced it has signed a new contract to produce combat boots for the U.S. military.
The one-year contract, which includes four additional one-year options, commissions Rocky Brands to produce hot weather combat boots for the U.S. military. However, according to the manufacturer, the total amount of boots shipped annually cannot exceed around US$20 million, with an expected annual amount of approximately US$16 million.
“We are extremely pleased to receive this additional contract from the U.S. Military, as increasing sales in our military segment is a key component of our diversified growth strategy. We recently invested in expanding our Puerto Rico manufacturing facility in order to better capitalise on the growing demand for military footwear”, said Mike Brooks, Chairman, Rocky Brands.
The company said it is currently in the process of fulfilling the February 2016 order to produce temperate weather combat boots, and an existing contract to produce hot weather boots signed in February 2013.
The company expects to begin fulfilling the new military order in the first half of 2017.
As previously reported by ILM, Rocky Brands is undergoing a major restructuring that includes reducing expenses, reorganising and refocussing sales efforts, and increasing operating efficiencies. The company, which has recently reduced its U.S. workforce, hopes to reduce annual operating expenses by US$3 million.
