BASF, the world’s leading chemical company will showcase a range of combined product and process innovation at the upcoming 29th India International Leather Fair (IILF). Under the theme of “We drive sustainable solutions”, the exhibition will showcase new products as well as premium leather footwear (lifestyle shoes, safety shoes, athletic shoes) and leather goods.

We always ensure that leather should be produced in a safe and environment friendly manner. Supporting our initiative this year, we will be combining efforts with our colleagues from the Water Solutions business unit in BASF, to present solutions for the treatment of wastewater. This is an alarming and important issue especially for our South Asia market, where we often have to use arid water”, says Ashok Sambandam, Business Director, BASF Leather Chemicals, South Asia.
Basyntan XA: A versatile tanning agent with a pronounced pigmenting action. Basyntan XA is used to obtain leather that are soft and full with a round handle that can be dyed to very level, brilliant shades. Basyntan XA is used to retan all types of leather especially leather goods and shoe upper leather. It gives excellent results in combination with vegetable and synthetic tanning agents.
Basyntan AR: An ecological, all-purpose synthetic retanning agent to obtain leather with a tight grain. Basyntan AR, the newly introduced retanning agent, is set to give leather a full and pleasant soft handle. It can be used for retanning wet-blue, wet-white and vegetable tanned leather. In combination with vegetable tanning agents, Basyntan AR promotes their penetration and homogeneous distribution in the leather and has zero add-on formaldehyde/heat yellowing (6 days 100°c)/PVC migration. It also offers good Perspiration fastness, Maeser flexes, and static water uptake.
Densodrin HP: A high performing, full handle water-repellent. The newly launched Densodrin HP is a polymer-based; water-repellent that is very effective for use on all types of leather. With its exceptional performance, Densodrin HP imparts a high water repellency (Bally and Maeser testing), a full handle and a pleasant touch when applied to the leather. The leather can be easily dyed to clean, brilliant shades with a very level surface so that draw and wrinkles are not highlighted. Application of Densodrin HP also results in a dry surface, which improves buffability and finishing. The new product can be used for all types of water-repellent, chrome-tanned leather, including upholstery leather, garment leather and fancy leather, but it is especially recommended for shoe upper leather. Densodrin HP is also a water repellent with a neutral smell. It possesses excellent lightfastness properties and is resistant to yellowing at high temperatures. It can also substitute part of the natural fatliquors in non-waterproof applications.
Densodrin DP: An environmentally friendly water-repellent to obtain soft and tight grain leather. Densodrin DP is a polymer based water-repellent that is very effective for use on all types of high performance leather. In addition to its excellent water repellency effect, it imparts full handle and a pleasant touch when applied to the leather and makes a very level surface without highlighting the grain blemishes. It possesses excellent lightfastness properties and is resistant to yellowing at high temperatures. It can substitute part of the natural fatliquors in non-waterproof applications.
Lepton Binder NA New: A very finely divided binder compound for finishing full-grain leather with zero add-on NMP/NEP. The special properties displayed by Lepton Binder NA New makes it particularly appropriate for use in pigmented base coats when applied to full-grain leathers. The use of this new product retains the natural handle and appearance of the leather. It penetrates deeply into the leather surface, which ensures that the grain is not obscured by overloading.
Astacin Finish PS: A superior water spot resistance and high print retention. Astacin Finish PS is a must for finishing elegant leather with outstanding water spot resistance and high print retention. Astacin Finish PS delivers very high performance levels regarding water absorption, heat and lightfastness as well as flexibility in wet/dry state and at low temperature. Their high water resistance, especially to spotting by water droplets, distinguishes finishes. As only a thin finishing coat is sufficient, elegant leather with a fine mill break can be produced with Astacin Finish PS.
Astacin Top LG: An exceptionally high water resistance and lightfastness. The newly launched Astacin Top LG has zero add-on NMP and is an aqueous aliphatic PU-dispersion for patent leather imitation. It is distinguished by a brilliant, transparent film and has high gloss characteristics. It is also a bright and glossy polyurethane with exceptional clarity, which is very suitable for producing imitation patent, brush off and classic “box” type leathers.
