The Swiss-German invested producer of high-quality Angus beef says it will expand its herd to cater for the rising demand in Romania and will also target the wider EU market.

Romania based Karpaten Meat Trading, says it will expand its cattle to a total of 6,500 herds thanks to rising domestic demand for high-quality Angus beef. Owned by a group of Swiss-German investors, the company is reported to have invested around €20 million in the Romanian market.

Aiming to set the “foundations of sustainable Angus-quality beef production in Romania”, the company is currently engaging in the expansion and modernisation of its three farms located in the Transylvania’s municipalities of Agrinoc, Nocrich and Marpod, and says it will house cattle for fattening and trade.

“In 2015, the proportion of domestic and exports sales was 80% for exports and 20% for domestic sales. Last year showed a significant expansion in the Romanian market, with 60% of our total sales intended for exports, and 40% sold to retailers, restaurants and meat processors in Romania”, Samuel Widmer, Co-Owner and General Manager, Karpaten Meat, told local media.
