On July 13, French automotive equipment supplier Faurecia inaugurated a new production plant in Salé, Morocco, to sustain the growth of its leather and textile seating business.
The official inauguration ceremony was attended by Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Morocco’s Minister for Industry, Trade, Investment & the Digital Economy, and Patrick Koller, CEO, Faurecia. The automotive parts manufacturer says it has invested MAD170 million (US$17.64 million) in the new 12,800 sq m site, leading to the creation of 1,300 jobs with a potential 500 additional employees in the future.
The plant has a daily production output of 10,000 leather and textile seat covers, in particular for the Peugeot 3008 and 5008. “The level of employee training, their established expertise in textiles, and the site's modern digital production system make Salé a benchmark for the industry”, says Faurecia.
Faurecia is to open a third manufacturing site, in the Moroccan town of Kenitra, for the company’s Interiors and Clean Mobility businesses in 2018; with the Kenitra and Salé sites in Morocco, and the Ben Arous site in Tunisia, Faurecia is the leading manufacturer of automotive seat covers in North Africa.
