Russian demand for Australian skins improving

Published:  05 September, 2017

The small skin market is described as steady with merino selections trading within a range of +/-US$1. As usual most skins are destined for the Chinese market although a trader reports that interest from Russia is up 25-30% compared with a year ago, although this is from a pretty low base point. Processing sheepskins directly in Russia is now cheaper than going through China, however, Chinese buyers dictate the market price and Russian buyers find it difficult to compete.
