Kenyan hide traders look to Italy

As the return to work of the Italians is lending some hope to bovine tanners and traders for an improvement in a market that is otherwise still quiet.

Quotations of wet-blue have slid US¢2-5/sq ft since July on all offers, meaning a 5-8% decline depending on size and selection. The lower grade hides are still attracting interest from Indian buyers, mainly in Calcutta, indicating that the turmoil following the GST tax introduction in India is now over.
