The local authorities have forcibly closed Argentinean tanner, Cueros del Litoral located in Corrientes after the owners had not paid rent on the property for the a number of years reports local media.

Tannery workers at the small tannery, which makes bovine leathers for footwear, have been locked out of the premises, which has caused concern for the workforce and their families.

Marcelo López, a local lawyer acting for the owners of the tannery property, La Brava, said that the eviction had taken place after a long legal battle to collect rent from the current tannery owner, Marcos Isnardi. A number of arrests were made at the plant, including the owner, when police moved in to confiscate the building and the equipment inside.

It seems that the tannery has had a bloody history following the murder of one of the owners of the tannery, Mario Lorenzo Isnardi, and the subsequent suicide of his business partner Nestor Segui who was alleged perpetrator of the killing.
