Demand for any type of raw material sold into the Chinese leather supply chain has started to ease back this week in the lead up to the national Chinese holidays which are taking place October 1-8. Outside of the Chinese New Year this holiday period is the second most important and an estimated 70% of the country’s population are expected to be on the move starting at the end of this week and over the coming weekend.
In further reports from China we understand that tanners are achieving discounts of $6-8 per piece from U.S. packer and trader offer lists who are keen to shift stock with the U.S. kill so high. It remains very much a buyers’ market and heavy discounting is on-going.
