The leather chemical manufacturer announced it has attained certification to Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001 for its finishing facility in Montorso, Italy.

Besides achieving the OHSAS 18001 accreditation, which recognises systems that enable continuous improvement in the area of occupational health and safety, the supplier’s annual ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 review is also said to have been successful. Therefore, Smit & zoon’s finishing facilities in Montorso are not only awarded with ISO 9001 accreditation for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management, but also with OHSAS 18001 accreditation for health and safety in the workplace.

“Achieving OHSAS 18001 is a major milestone for us,” said Jeroen Schipper, Managing Director, Smit & zoon Finishing. “It reflects the responsibility Smit & zoon’s management takes to ensure we look after our employees, our customers and our business partners at all times. This firm belief is embedded within every aspect of our business.”

Smit & zoon’s plant in Nanjing, China, received the OHSAS 18001 certification in 2016. The company’s Dutch plants hope to receive the certification soon as well.
