Annually organised by the Sri Lanka Footwear and Leather Products Manufacturers Association, the 2018 edition of the fair held February 2-4 at BMICH Colombo, Sri Lanka, welcomed the Sri Lankan President, Maithripala Sirisena, as well as the Ministers of Industry and Commerce and International Trade.

The tenth edition of Sri Lanka’s Footwear & Leather Fair hosted 230 stands, including exhibitors from India, Pakistan and China. Special events during the fair included a fashion show and a designer award ceremony.

Organised by Sri Lanka Footwear and Leather Products Manufacturers Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industries, Industrial Development Board of Ceylon and the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, the fair saw its first edition in 2007. Its objectives include providing opportunities for the country’s SMEs to become ‘export ready’, upgrading their technological capabilities and encouraging them to manufacture value added products for the international market.

Speaking during the event, Sirisena told the audience that if foreign investment is much needed to develop the country, this would not be at the expense of local industries. He said the Government would intervene to find solutions and provide support for all the issues faced by businesses.
