UK based high-quality handmade leather goods manufacturer, Tusting, has produced the ‘The Bloomsbury’ bag, designed by Charlotte Elizabeth and recently seen being carried by former U.S. actress Meghan Markle, who is set to become the newest member of the British Royal family.
Supported by the Prince’s Trust, which believes in supporting British craftsmanship, handbag business Charlotte Elizabeth sources and stitches its products in Great Britain. The Tusting story began in 1875 with the family-owned Harrold Leather Company, which used to supply premium leathers to English shoe factories. Soon they evolved into crafting luxury leather goods themselves from their vast collection of fine leathers and is currently run by the fifth-generation of Tusting family leather experts in their Buckinghamshire workshop.
“We began working with Charlotte in 2016 when she approached us to help produce her Bloomsbury bag which she had developed. We work with a few brands on a manufacturing and collaboration level but they are typically established or even iconic British brands known for their own speciality, such as Aston Martin cars”, said Gillian Tusting. “These brands wish to add a range of premium leather goods to their offering, and they come to us as expert makers. Charlotte’s business was a tiny fledgling one then, but we felt that getting involved was a great way to support not only her incredible bravery but also the great work of the Prince’s Trust. Her determination has been richly rewarded by having Meghan Markle choose to carry one of her bags - it really couldn’t have happened to a more deserving young person.”, she added.
ILM has recently paid a visit to Tusting’s leather good factory in England. An overview can be found in the March-April 2018 print and digital edition of ILM on page 62. Please click here to find out how you can obtain a copy.
