The automotive seating and electrical car parts supplier is to close a seating manufacturing plant located in Ontario, Canada.
Reportedly, Lear’s decision came as members of general trade union, Unifor, rejected a last tentative contract offer by 94% on May 1. The workers began striking on April 28 after the two parties failed to reach an agreement in negotiations, which began on March 20.
Lear’s manufacturing plant located in Ajax, Ontario, supplies seats for FCA's local assembly plant, which builds the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 models.
No details of the tentative deal have been released and Lear has not yet provided an official confirmation of the closure. A letter, posted online by Unifor said the “closure will take effect as soon as practical but not later than the conclusion of the current programs."
