The automotive seating and components manufacturer is to close a production plant located in Charlotte, U.S, state of Michigan.
According to local reports, 212 employees are to be laid off as from March 1. Formerly owned by a plastics fabrication company, the plant was acquired by Adient through its US$360 million purchase of Futuris Group in 2017, which supplies full seating systems, seat frames, seat trim, headrests, armrests and seat bolsters. According to a Company spokesperson, the Charlotte plant's core capability concerns injection moulding, “which is not part of Adient's core product portfolio”. In June, Adient called off a US$100 million plan to move its headquarters to downtown Detroit. Allegedly, the supplier has struggled to remain consistently profitable since spinning off from Johnson Controls in 2016.
