Modern Meadow to speak at SLTC conference

Dr Gabor Forgacs and Koroly Jakab from Modern Meadow in the US will be among the speakers at the 117th Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists (SLTC) annual conference in Northampton on April 26. Modern Meadow are attempting to produce lab grown meat protein and collagen as leather.

Forgacs presentation called "Growing Leather" will be one of nine 30-minute presentations which will take place on the campus of the University of Northampton. The opening, Proctor Memorial Lecture, will be given by Prof. Andrew Abbott of Leicester University and is titled: "Ion-age Leather Processing - a Step Change in Technology."

Other highlights include "Ecofriendly Technology: Degreasing, Drying and Preserving Leather" by Xavier Marginet of Akzonobel and "Biochar from Leather - the fate of Chromium" by Dr Richard Havercamp from Massey University in New Zealand.

Following the conference and the UK SLTC AGM, delegates and speakers will attend a drinks reception sponsored by Forestal Mimosa and Trumpler and a dinner/dance at the Park Inn Hotel in Northampton. 

Registration will take place at 08.45 - 09.30am and the seminar programme will finish at 16.30.
