After the London Fashion Week, the organisers of Amsterdam Fashion Week have announced they have committed to going fur-free at as from the next show and every fashion event thereafter.
The move comes after The Netherlands, which used to be the world's fourth biggest fur producer, passed a historic ban on mink farming that will take effect in 2024, and the city of Amsterdam has announced it works towards being fur-free. Danie Bles, CEO, Amsterdam Fashion Week, said the decision was made after talks with animal rights organisation, PETA.
Other shows that have banned fur include the London, Helsinki, Oslo and Perth Fashion Weeks. Several luxury brands have also recently dropped the material from their collections, including Chanel, Armani, Versace, Gucci, Burberry, Vivienne Westwood and Victoria Beckham. Countries that have banned fur farming include The Netherlands (2016), Austria (2004) and the UK (2000).
