The new leather tanning agent from German sustainable leather solutions business wet-green will be launched to the UK at the manufacturing and supply chain expo, which runs July 21 -23 at Olympia in London.
Made from olives leaves, a by-product of growing olives, Olivenleder is said to be designed to reduce the damage traditional leather production processes can have on the environment and without the use of chrome or crude oils. The company’s presence at Pure Origin is part of its expansion strategy into the fashion and footwear sectors, having so far mainly supplied the automotive, upholstery and saddling industries.
“The leather tanning process is a complex one, and for us, the bare minimum in sustainability was just not enough. We’ve gone from being a niche product, used only in a few cars at BMW and a selection of upholstery and accessories, to being involved with many other automotive companies. We have introduced Olivenleder into the design process for several models, as well as expanding our business from the motor, upholstery and saddling industries to footwear as well. A collaboration with a major German fashion label is our first entry into the fashion industry and a range of accessories, garments and shoes made of Olivenleder will be introduced before the end of the year”, said Thomas Lamparter, Head of Sales at wet-green. According to Lamparter, the company’s patented procedure “has the potential to lead the global leather production industry to a responsible future that is sustainable and healthy”.
Olivenleder will showcase a range of different colours and styles for different applications at Pure Origin, which runs alongside fashion wholesale trade show Pure London. Pure Origin brings together over 200 exhibitors from dozens of countries and attracts buyers as well as sourcing and technical personnel.
