The footwear industry in Asia is largely still waiting to place orders for the coming winter season. The winter was very cold and lasted very long in the USA with as result that the new spring season started much later (if it started at all some say) this year.
The cold weather in North America was in opposite contrast to a generally mild and wetter winter across Europe and Russia.
Shops are still full with spring/summer shoes and retailers want to see their inventories reduce before ordering for next winter. The need to create cash to pay for the new winter season is of course of immense importance. This is basically the outcome of the recent FFANY shoe in New York. The industry has chosen for what it calls a soft opening of the new season and business is there but one moves with caution, slowly, bit-by-bit.
Despite this, shoe retailers cannot gamble with the all-important ‘Back To School’ season and the products for that must be in the shops in good time. This means they cannot wait too long either when ordering new supplies. Expectations are that orders will be placed in several smaller parts to at least have in the store in time that which is absolutely needed.
