Mike Redwood, Visiting Professor in Leather at the University of Northampton in England, and teaches Marketing at the University of Bath will be one of the speakers at the ILM Automotive Leather Supply Chain Conference on September 2 in Shanghai. His presentation is provocatively titled: Who needs a car when we all live in cities? - The implications for the leather industry of accelerating urbanisation.
Mike Redwood, who is also a regualr blogger and columnist for ILM, will talk about how future consumer trends such as urbanisation, the environment and competing materials may impact on the uses of leather in automotive interiors.
"Global urbanisation is the current mega trend that has concentrated the minds of planners, politicians and businesses. But what is a city? Is it dispersed like greater Chongqing or tightly knit like Tokyo - both with over 30 million people? With huge growth in urbanisation how we will obtain our food and where we will tan our leather? And if we all live in cities as predicted by expert Danny Dorling with good public transport who will be using cars?", says Redwood.
Mike Redwood joins speakers from Bentley Motors, Faurecia, GST Seton Autoleather, Lectra, BASF and the International Council of Tanners at the conference.
Mike was trained as a leather chemist and has worked in tanneries around the world, in particular in Italy, the UK and Central America. Lately he has focused more on marketing and innovation. Mike has a BSc in Leather Science from Leeds University and an MBA and PhD from the University of Bath.
The half-day (afternoon) conference will take place at the Jumeirah Himalayas 5-star hotel in the Pudong district of Shanghai opposite the Shanghai New International Convention Centre (SNIEC) venue of the ACLE.
