A Chief Administrator for Karachi, Rauf Akhtar Faruqi has assured the local tanning industry that development works in the Korangi industrial area will begin soon despite a paucity of funds. The comments were made during a dinner hosted by the PTA.

Addressing a dinner reception hosted by Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) Southern Zone (SZ) on August 19, Faruqi announced the reconstruction of the dilapidated Jam Sadiq Bridge, which leads to the Korangi Industrial area.

He said that large repairs and reconstruction of the bridge that connects the city to the Korangi Industrial area would be commencing in a week’s time. The PTA requested that link road in the tannery zone should also be resurfaced with tarmac.

Faruqi said that despite the fact that KMC has very limited resources and is facing a massive shortfall of revenue they would complete the remaining work in the tannery zone.

The on-going situation with water shortages and the problems associated with the implementation of reverse osmosis plants was also discussed.
