The Wednesbury site specialises in the production of polyurethane foam components for automotive seating systems, supplying major vehicle manufacturers as part of Adient’s UK operations.

TheBusinessDesk reported that the company said that the plant has become economically unviable due to a combination of declining customer demand, reduced production volumes and sustained cost pressures affecting its European operations.

The closure follows a consultation launched earlier in 2026, when Adient warned that the site’s future was uncertain amid broader structural challenges facing the automotive sector, including lower-than-expected post-pandemic recovery and ongoing industry transition.

Adient told Insider Media that production levels across its EMEA business have not returned to pre-2019 levels, with no short-term recovery anticipated, contributing to the decision to shut the facility. Operations at the Wednesbury plant are expected to wind down by Autumn 2026. The company said it will support affected employees through the redundancy process, including severance and transition assistance.
