Many car makers are enjoying record sales with consumer markets in Asia, North America and parts of Europe performing well. Greater car sales are in turn driving more demand for automotive leather. This is best illustrated in raw material prices, where auto leather selections have remained relatively firm as prices in other segments have eased since a peak in April this year.

New trends

We may also be seeing the start of much more vertical integration within the supply chain as some of the major Tier-1 suppliers look closely at partnering or even acquiring leather making assets. The automotive leather segment is a very dynamic part of the leather industry at the moment.

At the ILM Automotive Leather Supply Chain conference in Shanghai on September 2, we aim to bring together speakers that will highlight the latest environmental, technical and market driven trends in the segment. We will also highlight the latest developments in interior design using leather and provide an update of any recent legislation or labelling requirements. Speakers include Bentley Motors, GST Seton Autoleather, Faurecia, BASF, Lectra, Leather Naturally! and the International Council of Tanners.

The conference coincides with the All China Leather Exhibition taking place at the SNIEC exhibition halls next door September 3-5 and will be held at the 5-star Jumeriah Himalayas hotel in Pudong.

It is a “must attend” event for anyone in the auto leather supply chain from hide suppliers/traders, leather chemical/machinery suppliers, tanners, Tier-1 suppliers and OEM’s interested in recent advances in auto leather interior technology and market information.
