Highlights include an automotive corner, showcasing the latest finishing range from BASF and their latest Densodrin water-repellents. Another highlight is the newly set-up Global R&D centre at the BASF innovation campus in Shanghai. The move to relocate the leather application centre provided an excellent platform to integrate BASF’s scientific expertise and technologies to offer the best solutions to the market.

Densodrin HP

The newly launched Densodrin HP is a polymer-based, water-repellent that is very effective for use on all types of leather. With its exceptional performance, Densodrin HP imparts a high water repellency (Bally and Maeser testing), a full handle and a pleasant touch when applied to the leather. The leather can be easily dyed to clean, brilliant shades with a very level surface so that draw and wrinkles are not highlighted. Application of Densodrin HP also result in a dry surface which improves buffability and finishing. The new product can be used for all types of water-repellent, chrome-tanned leather, including upholstery leather, garment leather and fancy leather, but it is especially recommended for shoe upper leather. Densodrin HP is also a water repellent with a neutral smell. It possess excellent lightfastness properties and is resistant to yellowing at high temperatures. It can substitute part of the natural fatliquors in non-waterproof applications. This environmentally friendly product has zero add-on of formaldehyde, APEO (alkylphenol ethoxylates), AOX (organic halogen compounds) and solvents.

Basyntan X CF Liquid

Basyntan X CF Liquid is an excellent retanning agent that can be used to retan all types of leather. It is highly recommended for leathers that are expected to fulfil high standards of fullness, softness and a pleasant handle. Leathers treated with Basyntan X CF Liquid respond very well to dyeing and when applied in combination with Relugan X CT Liguid, the tightness of the leather is also improved. It can be used to replace vegetable extract that is applied to heavyweight leathers to lighten their intrinsic colour. This enables the tanning agents to penetrate much more evenly and quickly especially through the cross-section, thereby increasing the overall yield.

Relugan X CT Liquid®        

Relugan X CT Liquid is the new resin tanning agent that is applied in retannages for all types of leather. It is compatible with all conventional anionic retanning agents, chrome-tanning agents and chrome syntans.

When used, Relugan X CT Liquid has minimal lightening effect on the intrinsic colour of the leather. This makes it an ideal choice as it allows all types of leather to be dyed to clean, level and brilliant shades. Leathers retanned with Relugan X CT Liquid have a fine and tight grain, especially in the loosely structured areas of the skin. They also have uniform milling break and respond very well to buffing. In addition, buffed leathers such as suede and nubuck can be dyed to brilliant shades. When Relugan X CT Liquid is combined with Basyntan X CF Liquid, it further improves the fullness and softness of the leather.

Tamol X CU Liquid

The new Tamol X CU Liquid is used mainly for retanning of chrome leathers. It promotes mild and even neutralization to achieve a uniform absorption, deep penetration and even distribution of the anionic retanning agents. As a result, the grain layer is no longer overloaded and retains its full elasticity even if fairly astringent tanning agents, such as mimosa or lightly sulfited quebracho extracts, are used in the anionic retanning process. The grain can now be more uniformly dyed – even for thicker leathers, at the later stage of the process. In addition, applying Tamol X CU Liquid in the re-chroming process will result in the chrome having better dispersion and penetration into the cross section, enhancing tightness and fullness to the leather, also improve the exhaustion of chrome. Its low residual monomer content complies with the latest ecological standards.
