Haroldo Ferreira, Executive President of the Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries (Abicalçados), noted that the certification was Diamond level, meaning that the company met more than 80% of the 104 sustainable origin indicators needed.
He said: “Sustainability is fundamental for the footwear sector and proof of this has been the increasing demand from companies seeking certification, the only ESG and sustainability certification that covers the entire chain, from the supplier to the shoe factory.”
Provided by Assintecal, Sustainable Origin aims to “certify from the component suppliers to the footwear manufacturer, closing the production cycle”. The program has external audits by SENAI, SGS, Intertek, Bureau Veritas and DNV.
The organisation reports that more than 60 Brazilian shoe and component manufacturers are currently in the process of certification.
