Announcing the appointment via social media on April 4, Mary Katrantzou said, “The rich cultural heritage of Bulgari has played an integral part in my formation as a designer. I’ve always been inspired by the design codes and syncretism of Bulgari, its sensibility and mastery of colours, the sense of harmony and this idea of alchemy.”

The Italian brand, most famous for its jewellery, has created the new role for Katrantzou as it looks to expand its portfolio of leather goods and accessories.

Bulgari is part of the LVMH Group who acquired the brand from the Bulgari family for US$5.2 billion in 2011 in cash and stock.
