Akeroyd is currently CEO of Milan-based Gianni Versace SpA, before which he was CEO of Alexander McQueen since 2004.

Akeroyd will succeed Marco Gobbetti, who will step down from the role and leave Burberry on December 31, 2021. Murphy will chair the Executive Committee from this date until Akeroyd joins the company.
