According to the official news agency of the Regional Government of Tuscany (Regione Toscana), the agreement commits the regional and local authorities to supporting the administrative process for the development, as well as opportunities related to training, innovation, research and collaboration with the local supply chain. The planned site will occupy between 25,000m² and 30,000m², including the redevelopment of an existing rural complex, with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability through renewable energy and integration with the surrounding landscape.
Regional President Eugenio Giani described Chanel’s decision as recognition of Tuscany’s long-standing manufacturing expertise, while Undersecretary Bernard Dika said the project was the result of three years of work and had the potential to create skilled employment and strengthen one of the region’s most important manufacturing sectors.
Italian newspaper Il Tirreno reported that Chanel plans to invest around €100 million in the facility, which is expected to employ approximately 100 people and be completed by the end of 2028. The publication added that the centre will focus on quality control for bags and accessories produced by Chanel’s subcontractors and will work closely with the leather manufacturing district of Santa Croce sull’Arno.
