Coach’s decision is said to include all types animal fur such as mink, coyote, fox and rabbit but, contrary to some competitors, the fashion brand is to continue to use shearling, mohair and angora. “We understood from our employee population and from our consumers that it was important to them that we take a stand on this issue,” Joshua Schulman, CEO, Coach, told online media Business of Fashion. “We’re doing it because we believe it’s the right thing to do.”

The ban is expected to have a limited impact on the brand’s operations as fur currently accounts for less than 1% of its womenswear ready to wear business. Schulman also said Coach was commitment to ethical sourcing. “For all of our materials, we take great care throughout our supply chain to prevent sourcing fibres from suppliers known for their abusive behaviours.”

Since the beginning of 2018, other fashion labels that announced they would ban fur include Diane von Furstenberg, Burberry, Margiela, Donna Karan, Versace and Furla.
