Allegedly, there are cases of Covid-19 in eight JBS units in the state and in two Vale Grande plants. Meat processor Agra Agroind Indústria de Alimentos has confirmed 105 cases of the new coronavirus, and JBS, which has ten units and about 11,000 employees in the state of Mato Grosso, has reported 41 confirmed cases and 128 suspected cases to the MPT, of which at least 14 at the Barra do Garças unit. According to the prosecutors, some meatpackers are still failing to meet the standards set by the government, with employees that have had contact with those confirmed positive to the virus not being sent away for confinement.

China is reported to have suspended imports from two pork processing units in Brazil, owned by JBS and BRF, amid concerns about the new coronavirus. So far, six Brazilian slaughterhouses have seen their exports to China suspended. Of this total, five were embargoed by China and one by Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture. China is the largest buyer of pork, beef and poultry from Brazil.
