The institute’s stand drew visits from Amb Jawed Ashraf, IFS (Retd.), Chairman of the Indian Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), and R Selvam, IAS, Executive Director of the Council of Leather Exports.
The stand featured innovations spanning sustainable tanning agents, specialty chemicals for upholstery and automotive leathers, eco-friendly finishing formulations and solid-waste management solutions focused on value recovery from tannery waste streams.
Among the key attractions was the Indian Footwear Sizing System (BHA), a home-grown, scientifically validated standard developed through a nationwide foot-dimension survey, which generated strong interest from footwear manufacturers and designers.
The exhibit also showcased fashion-led leather garments, accessories, trend forecasts and transparent leathers developed by CSIR-CLRI, demonstrating the integration of science, design and market relevance.
Another highlight was the proposed CSIR-CLRI ‘Ecomark’ label for finished leather and leather products. With a three-tier recognition system (Platinum, Gold, and Silver), the initiative aims to benchmark Indian leather against stringent environmental and compliance standards and attracted attention from exporters and brand representatives.
The stall saw active engagement from industry stakeholders, entrepreneurs and researchers, reinforcing CSIR-CLRI’s role in supporting innovation, sustainability and growth across the leather sector.
