Lopker started making leather purses and sandals to support himself through college. At the age of 22, he hired staff to make and sell leather goods under the name of Styled Steer. As the brand grew, it was incorporated as Deckers Corporation in 1975; now known as Deckers Outdoor Corporation, or Deckers Brands, owner of Ugg boots. Lopker stayed with Deckers until 1982, when he left to become CEO of a planning software specialist for manufacturing.  Lopker fought 13-year battle with stage 4 prostate cancer.
