Following a break due to the pandemic, the awards recognise individuals who have achieved excellence in their field and those who have contributed their expertise to the University and the region.

A statement from the university said: “Federico is arguably the most distinguished consultant to the global leather industry in the field of sustainability in the value chain. In this, he reflects the ethos of the University’s Institute for Creative Leather Technologies: sustainability, international/global issues, innovation and strategic thinking.”

Brugnoli has been a long-time colleague of University of Northampton Emeritus Professor Tony Covington in international projects and associated with the leather department.

He said: “I am extremely grateful to the University of Northampton for this unexpected recognition of a many years of work, sacrifice and passion. A real honour and a new impulse of motivation for the future.”

Federico Brugnoli is Founder and CEO of Italy based consultancy Spin360 and has been very active in the leather industry for many years. His work includes developing the Environmental Product Category Rules for leather with Cotance in the EU. He has been working with a number of companies and organisations in the leather sector to develop lifecycle analysis data for leather.

Brugnoli will also be among the speakers at the upcoming “Future Trends in a Post-covid Leather Industry” half-day conference taking place on March 29 in Dubai which is co-organised by ILM and APLF. Click here for more information.
