On August 5, around 7pm, a fire believed to be started in the finishing department has almost destroyed the entire warehouse of the Kering-owned company, well known for its high-end production mainly destined for Gucci. The cause of the fire is unknown and an estimation of the damage is still ongoing; in the meantime the warehouse has been closed off. It seems that at the moment of the fire many workers were still in the building, but no injuries were reported.

Angelo Montanelli, one of the owners of Blutonic, commented: “I don’t know what to think, I can’t explain. Ours is one of the most modern companies in the area, with so many certifications.”

The smoke covered the Florence-Pisa-Livorno state highway and was seen from far away. The Mayor of San Miniato, Vittorio Gabbanini, has issued a prohibition on vegetables farmed in the area within 1.5km from the warehouse, to establish if there is any environmental damage. The Local Health Agency, however, denied any risk connected to the large amount of smoke from the fire.
