The fire broke out at a workshop on Calle 27 with Carrera 2 in the La Feria neighbourhood. Several units from the Bucaramanga Fire Brigade attended the scene and worked to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring buildings.
The premises were used for the processing and treatment of hides. According to authorities, machinery and raw materials worth approximately COP 80 million (US$25,000) were damaged, while a further COP 30 million (US$9,600) of damage was caused to the building.
Jorge Peña, commander of the Bucaramanga Fire Brigade, confirmed to Vanguardia that the site was a tannery workshop, adding: “The causes are yet to be established”.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control and secured the area. No injuries were reported, while an investigation is expected to establish the cause of the fire.
