The scheme aims to cut down on clothing waste, 700,000 tonnes of which is reportedly thrown away in France each year, with two-thirds of that number ending up in landfills.

Secretary of State for Ecology Berangere Couillard announced the details of the scheme, which will be run by Refashion, during a visit to La Caserne, a hub for responsible fashion.

Planned to launch in October, the program will mean customers can claim €7 back for mending shoe heels and €10-25 for clothing repairs, pulled from a €154 million fund which will cover 2023-28.

The scheme was also developed to support repair businesses in the country and was modelled after an existing household appliance repair bonus.
