Born in 1934 in Piacenza, the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy, Armani entered the fashion industry after an early career in window dressing and textile work. In 1975, alongside his partner Sergio Galeotti, he founded Giorgio Armani SpA, which grew into a global fashion and lifestyle empire known for the design, manufacture, distribution and retail of haute couture, ready-to-wear, leather goods, shoes, accessories and home interiors.

Armani’s consistent use of fine leathers and suedes in his collections has played a key role in the brand’s appeal, extending into handbags, belts, footwear and later, furniture and interiors.

The company remained independent under his control, even as luxury conglomerates consolidated much of the sector. Armani expanded into multiple labels, fragrances, hospitality and home collections, while maintaining a core focus on craftsmanship and material quality.

A private funeral will be held, with an opportunity for public viewing at the company’s Milan headquarters on September 6 and 7, 2025.
