According to Suriya Prateepmanowong, President of the Thai Leather goods Association, the association is hosting the Thai ‘Leather Week 2013’ from November 22 to December 1 in order to boost the leather industry, given most of the income of the leather industry comes from domestic consumption. The president expected that the industry would see a 10% growth at the end of 2013. He, however, expressed concerns over the ongoing political protests, which could dampen the growth, adding that if the situation remained calm until next year, the leather industry could see a rise of up to 15% in 2014.

He also pointed out that the quality of Thai leather is internationally known and widely accepted as it the best leather in the ASEAN region and ranked second best in the world behind Italy.

The Department of International Trade Promotion is going all out to promote Thai leather products in the US, China, and Scandinavia, all of which have preference for quality genuine leather, added the president.

The Thai Leather Week 2013 will be held at the Department of International Trade Promotion, located on Ratchadapisek Road.
